Same instruction, running quietly in the background, week after week, no hands required.
Tasks that used to take hours can take none of yours. It usually pairs with an agent, which is the part that actually goes and does the steps.
A worked example
Say you run a small customer service team, and every Monday morning you burn an hour reading weekend emails, flagging complaints, grouping questions, gauging the overall mood. You set up an automation that fires at eight every Monday. It pulls the weekend’s emails, an AI reads through each one, sorts them into three piles, complaints, questions, praise, writes a short paragraph on the overall sentiment, and lands that summary in your inbox and your boss’s.
By your second coffee, the whole week’s triage is done and waiting. You didn’t touch a single email.
The usual mix-up
People treat automation as set-it-and-forget-it forever. It isn’t. You still need to check in occasionally, make sure it’s sorting things properly, and tweak the rules when your business changes or something starts slipping through.
